Good, glad to see VC-1 is finally being adopted by a good bit of the Blu-ray backing studios. MPEG-2 may be better as it is uncompressed, but the problem is just that it leaves so little room for special features that have been included for several years in DVD's. I do plan on buying Blu-ray discs in the future now that I have a PS3, but I will not buy anything that doesn't have special features. That is the same way I have been with DVD's though. Hence the reason I have all of the boxed ...
Yeah it's a good read. I don't think Nintendo will leave the hardware business to pursue software (like Sega) in the foreseeable future. Even if the Wii tanks in the next few years, it's an inexpensive system that even if they don't dominate the market, they are still making money on each hardware unit sold. They also have the DS, which is flying off the shelves, to keep them afloat.
Haha, I hear you. I'm sure that they'll have an option to turn it on or off if you don't want it. I personally am a huge fan of it for sending text messages on my cell phone. Haven't tried anything on the PS3 yet, but should be very soon as my wife just called and said it came by UPS today. :)
Arkham- That makes more sense. Thanks for the explanation. Maybe I'll just be waiting for the next PSP that has a hard drive. Or not, may ask for that for my birthday next February.
Microgamer- I can definitely understand that based on the previous delays with the PS3. It seems to me that stores are getting more shipments of the PS3 these days than they were getting in the days just after launch. So it does seem to be getting better. My gut feeling is that it should be coming out on time in March and have at least the approx. 200k units from the November launch in the US.
Gears- I disagree entirely. He didn't say that the PS3 couldn't run UE3, but that's what he was getting at. Unreal Tournament 2007 looks incredible, and how are you saying that UE 2007 is being dumbed down for the PS3. Everything I've heard from Mark Rein on that front is very positive. I remember him saying about a year ago that they were able to get the UE 2007 build up and running on the PS3 and at a stable 30 fps within weeks. Fatal Inertia is looking pretty good too, I'm actually ex...
I wasn't saying it in a bad way. Was just informing him that it's exclusive and that I was sorry he wouldn't be able to enjoy it on his 360 as he apparently already has a 360.
That's insane. Would help a lot if people were able to run their games via the Memory Stick. Question is how much would this be? $100 seems like a good price, any more and I don't see how anyone would be interested. It would definitely make me think about getting a PSP though. I could fit a lot of movies on that, and PSP is finally getting some good games.
This rumor has been put to rest via Three Speech (whether you wish to believe the statement is up to you). "A brief statement from David Reeves (President and CEO of SCEE) reads as follows: “We’re still on schedule to launch PS3 in March throughout the PAL territories and all speculation otherwise is without foundation.”
The HD version of this video was originally posted here: http://www.threespeech.com/...
Gears- Actually, you are wrong. Most the new Blu-ray releases recently and in the future are using the VC-1 codec. Tk is completely right when he says they're both just discs, it will come down to capacity and who has the most industry support. Blu-ray wins in both.
marcusfenix- If PS3 can't run UE3, why is PS3 getting Fatal Inertia and Unreal Tournament 2007?
It won't be, this is a PS3 exclusive. Sorry.
No, not all the time. But I try not to offend entire groups of people when I post on here.
I for one am excited about it. I am really liking the art style in these pictures. Looking like I'll be getting this one the day it comes out.
Jenzo- What a completely idiotic comment.
Testerg- I don't think it will be "abandoned" by Sony or anything. Really the UMD format is the only thing that has really bombed for Sony on the PSP. There are several games for PSP right now that are really making me consider getting one. Killzone: Liberation, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Lumines, Socom, Locoroco, etc.
Hope your kids enjoy the PS3. Mine should be here in a few days from Gamestop.
Quit saying that, you say that on every PS3 thread.
Never heard of an "official" PS3 dev, does that mean that they will develop exclusively for the PS3?
The difference being that Sony has sold at least 4 times the amount of HD-DVD add on drives that the 360 has sold.. But yes, this will help everyone in the HD format wars. Sony stands to gain more from it because of the shortages they've had in the past with the diodes. That issue seems to be getting better as shipments seem to have increased and availability is becoming more common.
